Welcome to our Attack on Titan roleplay! Our story will take place in the northernmost district of wall Rose, the Utopia District. It is the year 848 and the characters we know from the show are in training. Our new characters can be part of the Trainee Corps, the Garrison Regiment, the Military Police, or a veteran member of the Scout Regiment. The plot will run parallel to the one from the show, but our characters should avoid interaction with the characters in the show. The plot of our roleplay will be unrelated from the one in the show. Also, no titan-shifters. Also keep in mind the German setting of Attack on Titan when it comes to naming characters and their looks.
That's all for now, so feel free to start making characters, and don't forget to make a surplus because they are expendable. "Someone who isn't willing to risk everything, isn't capable of changing anything" - Erwin Smith

It was a sunny morning in Wall Sina, and there was a large sale in the local markets. Bianka awoke with excitement for this sale, and proceeded to get dressed quickly. Today was her one day off work, and it was the big Friday blowout at her local tailor. She could finally afford that wicked dress she's wanted for so long! Without delay, she ran downstairs and grabbed a bite to eat before she left. Her mom had made her a tasty omelette with mushrooms and bacon inside. "Ahh, the luxuries of life..." Bianka thought. After waving goodbye to her mom and dad, she headed down to the tailor and bought that beautiful dress she was going to wear to her friend's next party. "Oh boy, I can't wait to see the look on their faces when they see me wearing this $2,500 dress!" Bianka squealed. She returned home and left the dress in her closet, and set out again to go meet her friends for lunch. Bianka's day continued, containing little bits of drama, little bits of romance, and a large lack of titan slaying. As she returned home from a night of fun, drinks, and games, she laid down on her bed and prepared to sleep. Her eyes started to water. She thought about the world she lived in and how messed up it was. How could she pretend to be happy when so much chaos is happening around her? The drama of her friends was too much for her to take, and her boyfriend, Klaus, broke up with her just two hours ago. Her mom walked into the room and comforted her, telling her that there are plenty more fish in the sea. Ignorance truly is bliss...

It was the first day of training. The trainees had just been through the rigorous questioning and intimidation that Instructor Shadis puts all trainees through on their first day, and it was time for lunch. Eike watched as some of the trainees left in carts, scared off so early on. Why would they leave? she wondered to herself. If something like that could scare them off, what made them think they could handle titans? Not that she knew anything about titans. She'd never seen them herself, but she knew there were people in the class who had seen them when they broke through the Wall and into Shinganshina. Those were the people who had been ignored by the instructor. Part of her desperately wanted to ask one of them what the titans were like, but she didn't want to be insensitive. Instead, she went inside the lunch building, grabbed some soup and bread, and sat down at a random table, not paying any mind to anyone who was sitted near her.
Sera's first excursion was today, and her heart was pounding furiously. She was both terrified, and a little excited, as well. She took a few deep breaths, trying to calm herself. She would be able to handle it. She knew she would. She tried to focus on how exciting it was, that she would be going outside of the wall. She would see the world out there. Part of her was worried that upon opening the gates, they would ride out and off the edge of the world, but she knew that was ridiculous. People in the Recon Corps had been out there before, and she'd seen diagrams and maps of the land surrounding the walls that they'd been shown in classes during training. But still, she couldn't shake the superstitions she'd grown up with.

Hagen's first day as a Trainee was going pretty smoothly so far. No one approached him yet, and he wasn't intimidated by this Keith Shadis guy either. It was now lunch and Hagen sat down at the emptiest table far away from everyone. It's not that he was anti-social or anything, but he thought the idea of making friends was pointless. They're all going to die anyway, right? Just as he was thinking that, someone sat across the table from him. Hagen looked up and saw the look in the person's eyes. They were obviously scarred too, trying to avoid human interaction. Hagen ignored the kid and went back to eating his soup, but then the kid spoke.
"How did they die? Your family, I mean. How did they die?" Hagen could see the look of terror in this guy's eyes.
It was obvious he had been through something very similar to Hagen. "Not by titans, if that's what you're thinking," Hagen responded.
"I see." The kid finished with that and went on eating.
After eating for a good five minutes, Hagen was overcome with curiosity and had to ask "Why do you want to fight. It looks like you have nothing left to lose."
The guy looked up into Hagen's eyes. "I fight because I have nothing left to lose. I have already lost everything at Shiganshina. If there is nothing left for me to lose, what other is there to do than fight? Sit around and mope, just waiting for the Titans to devour us whole? No. I chose to fight. I chose to fight because of the slight chance of victory, the slight chance to regain something worth fighting for. If I do not fight, nothing will change. I can only hope you are thinking the same thing, friend."
He made a good point, but it was lost on Hagen. He was blinded by his hate against the world, the corruptness, the selfishness, and the cruelty of it all. The only reason Hagen wanted to fight was because he wanted to die, but he may as well mask it behind some brave act of valor rather than tying a rope around his neck. After thinking about everything this kid just said, Hagen looked up into his petrified eyes and had to know his name.
"What's your name?" Hagen asked him, and he responded "Dieter." And with that, he was off. Dieter got up and left the table. What a strange man, giving a little speech like that to me, Hagen thought. Why me? Hagen realized that it may not have been the terrified eyes of Dieter he was looking into, but the reflection of his own. Hagen had a good think for the rest of his lunch.

Or at least, Hagen had a good think up until Edelweiss decided to sit down at his table. Edel had grabbed his food a little late, and when he walked into the room, he saw a kid sitting all the way in the back, alone, away from everyone. That wasn't right! He was probably lonely. Edel knew how it felt to be an outcast, and by god, he wouldn't let anyone else feel that way if he could help it. So he sat down across from Hagen. After a couple moments of silence, he broke the ice. "Hi! How are you? What's your name? I'm Edelweiss! Edelweiss Aufwiedersehen! I know it's a bit of a strange name, but for some reason I guess my parents really liked flowers. What did you think of the speech the instructor gave? I think he seems like a good guy. Kind of rough around the edges, maybe strict, but that's probably good in a military instructor. Or maybe I'm just being hopeful, I don't know," with that, he shrugged. He tried to tone down his natural enthusiasm, using minimal hand gestures. He hoped he was being friendly enough.

Hagen sat and watched as another trainee sat at his table. What now? After the mad rambling this Edelweiss guy, Hagen decided to say something. "I'm Hagen, and I'm doing fine." Hagen didn't want to put up with this guy's shenanigans, so in order to distract him, Hagen just brought up the lesson they were to learn in class tomorrow. "Did you hear we're supposed to be learning about the Titans tomorrow, Edelweiss? Apparently we're learning about how ruthless they are, how they kill with no mercy, and how much a threat they pose to humanity." Hagen waited to hear Edelweiss's opinion the subject of Titans.

This was Dora's first day as a trainee and she was already feeling pressures. Not because there was the promise of coming bface to face with a titan but because there were so mant other kids here. She knew that was petty but as she looked around, she felt her breath catch and the color drain from her face. Most of the tables were full of kids, talking of the grandeur and glory. She took a breath when she finally found a table that was not totally ocxupied. She sat on the far end, letting her black curls fall into her eyes as she poked at the bread in front of her.

Hagen, Hagen, Hagen, Edelweiss thought the name over and over to himself, so that he would remember. When Hagen mentioned titans, and ruthless killing, Edel's pleasant demeanour faltered, and he looked down, thinking about Shinganshina. He really didn't want to talk about titans with this guy, not now; instead, he decided to try and change the subject. "Where'd you hear that? Is there a lesson plan or something? What other kinds of things do you think we'll be learning about?" Oh, all the possibilities. "Do you think we'll get cooking lessons? I've always wanted to learn how to cook. Oh hey!" He seemed to brighten up, seemingly having gotten a good idea. "Do you have any hobbies?" Maybe he was into music! Edel's eyes sparkled like an anime character's at the prospect.
It was lunch time, and Urban was sitting outside, enjoying a sandwich in the park. It was a peaceful day; all around him he could see people going about their days. Children were playing frisbee, people were walking their dogs, and there was even a game of tennis. He sighed. He wished life could always be this peaceful, but unfortunately, that was impossible. Exams were coming up, and it was incredibly stressful; if he failed, there would be no chance that he would become a veterinarian. He groaned, placing his head in his hands. There was no way he'd be able to pass without a tutor... he'd have to look into hiring one. But the background checks would be so much work... maybe he could hire someone to hire a tutor for him? Was that a service that existed?

Hobbies? I don't have any hobbies, right? Hagen thought to himself. In order to make some more conversation with this man, Hagen decided he would make a hobby up. "I find solace in listening to music..." That was total bullshit. Hagen couldn't care less for music. It was just an inconvenience for silence. "What about you, Edelwiess?" Hagen asked unconsciously.

Edel's entire face lit up at Hagen's response. "You like music?!" True music lovers were rare; with so much stuff from before the walls being banned, it was hard to come by people who could do justice to classical music pieces. "Do you go to music festivals often? Are there many concert halls where you live?" Unfortunately for Edelweiss, concert halls weren't really a thing in Shinganshina, but he knew they were common further inside the walls. "Have you ever seen a ballet?"

"Listen, Edelwiess, you need to slow down." Edel was asking way too much for Hagen to respond to. "I wanna have a nice conversation with you. I really do. But I can't if you're asking me 10 questions at a time." Hagen finally told Edel that he was talking too much, but Hagen used his skillful wordplay to make it sound less rude. "And no, I haven't seen a ballet. Why would I want to anyway?" Hagen had no idea that Edel was a huge fan himself.

"Oh. I was just- I thought that if you like music, you might like ballet. It was a long shot, I know," Edel sighed. He was hoping his new friend would be interested in ballet- how wonderful would that be? Oh well, you can't have everything. "Well, you like music. Do you play any instruments? Wh-" he started to ask another question, and then realized that Hagen had just asked him to slow down, so he stopped with just the one. Oh, but he had so many questions to ask! Like who his favourite composer was, and his favourite instrument, and where he was from, and how old he was, and-

Edel asked if Hagen knew how to play any instruments. Hagen thought to himself, I could dig myself deeper into this hole of lies, or I could just take one easy step out now. "Well, I often find myself playing the... the..." Hagen was struggling to even think of any instruments. He didn't want anything too far-fetched, but nothing too simple either... "I play the triangle!" Hagen finally blurted out. Before he could explain himself, the bell rang. "Oh look! That's the bell! I guess I should be going now." The bell for the tour of the academy rang, and trainees were getting up and preparing to leave, along with Hagen, who was eager to get away from Edelwiess. He just couldn't bear being asked about playing the triangle.

"Attention! This is the 54th expedition beyond the walls! We lost Wall Maria a couple years ago, and it's time to start taking it back!" Raimund yelled to his soldiers. There were only a few new recruits from the Trainees this year. A shame, really, because it's times like this that the scouts need them most. "Those of you that are veterans, you know the drill! Recruits! Just follow the plans we discussed earlier and you'll be fine!" That was a lie. Raimund knew that 40% of these people would die. "I will remind you of our goal! From Utopia district, we will ride to the Northernmost district of Wall Maria, the Hawken District! From there, we aim to salvage and secure any goods that were not brought back to Wall Rose!" This was just a supply run, really. Food was running low in Utopia and they needed more. "That's it everybody! Straight and simple!" It's never straight and simple. "Alright everybody! It's go time! Scouts of the 54th expedition beyond the walls! Move out!" Just like that, hundreds of scouts started moving towards the gate. The 54th recon mission has officially begun.

This was Sera's first time seeing Commander Lothar in person, despite the fact that he was the leader of her division. She couldn't believe that she was working under a hero like him; he had been out beyond the wall long enough to be declared MIA... and yet he'd survived! It was impossible to imagine such a thing. She wished she could have spoken to him before this mission and asked some questions, especially about the titans, but she hadn't had the chance. She took a deep breath, knowing that once she got through the gate, there would be no turning back. This would be her first time seeing a titan. She fiddled with her 3D maneuver gear, praying that it would malfunction or anything, and then, mustering up all the courage she could, she headed through the gate.
Emmerich looked around at the faces of his squadmates; some were familiar, some he'd never seen before. The new scouts were easy to tell from the old ones- they looked terrified, but... hopeful at the same time. That hope came from never seeing a titan before, from never having to fight one. They would all lose that hope after this mission, he knew. If they survived, anyway. Hopefully there wouldn't be too many that had made it up here- that aberrant titan, the colossal one, it had only broken a hole in the south side of the wall. After two years, though, it was probably a fool's hope.
--
Before Edel could say anything else, the bell rang. That was a quick lunch! He looked down at his soup and bread, untouched. He'd been so busy talking, he'd totally forgotten to eat. He could already feel the hunger pangs. Hagen had gotten up as soon as the bell rang, which seemed strange to Edel. Why would he leave so quickly? Did he not want to talk about music? Maybe I was annoying him... Edel thought, beginning to feel guilty about being so talkative with a stranger. That was worrying to him; all he wanted was to keep the guy from feeling lonely!
Eike, on the other hand, had actually managed to eat! She'd spent her lunch mostly listening to the conversations of those around her, talking about the intimidation techniques used by the instructor, and about titans. She'd said a word or two here and there, but for the most part she'd just listened to what people thought the titans would be like. It was kind of scary, imagining these big, humanoid creatures that ate people. She'd heard they had human features, but she couldn't imagine that. Why would they look so human? It didn't make sense to her, and so she couldn't picture it. When the bell rang, she got up like most of the other trainees. They were having a tour of the training grounds now, which was likely how they would end the day as well.
